Birthdays and Wedding Anniversaries

Upon request, the Lieutenant Governor sends greetings to current and former Saskatchewan residents celebrating special birthdays and wedding anniversaries.  The Lieutenant Governor’s Office also forwards requests to other officials.  Following is a list of officials who receive the requests and the type of occasions they acknowledge:

  • Her Majesty The Queen acknowledges wedding anniversaries starting at 60 and then every 5 years.  She acknowledges birthdays starting at 100 and then every year.  Please note that The Queen's greeting is not mailed until 2 weeks prior to the actual occasion date (it is not sent in advance for an earlier celebration date).  To receive a wedding anniversary greeting from The Queen, please submit the greeting request form and forward a copy of a marriage certificate or a letter from a minister of religion.  To receive a birthday greeting from The Queen, please submit the greeting request form and forward a copy of the birth certificate or the Old Age Security number.
  • The Lieutenant Governor acknowledges wedding anniversaries starting at 50 and then every 5 years.  She acknowledges birthdays starting at 80 and then every 5 years.
  • The Governor General acknowledges wedding anniversaries starting at 50 and then every 5 years.  He acknowledges birthdays starting at 90 and then every 5 years. 
  • The Prime Minister acknowledges wedding anniversaries starting at 25 years and then every 5 years, and every wedding anniversary starting at 50.  He acknowledges birthdays starting at 65 and then every 5 years, and every birthday starting at 75.
  • The Premier acknowledges wedding anniversaries starting at 25 years and then every 5 years, and every anniversary starting at 50.  He acknowledges birthdays starting at 50 and then every 5 years, and every birthday starting at 100.
  • The Leader of the Opposition acknowledges wedding anniversaries starting at 25 and then every 5 years, and every wedding anniversary starting at 50.  He acknowledges birthdays starting at 50 and then every 5 years, and every birthday starting at 100.
  • Saskatchewan Members of Parliament receive the greeting requests and set their own guidelines.  Please contact your MP if you would like to know if they will provide a greeting for a particular occasion.
  • Some Saskatchewan Senators have chosen to participate in this program and set  their own guidelines regarding the occasions they acknowledge.  Please contact the Senator if you would like to know if they will provide a greeting for a particular occasion.
  • The Regina Mayor acknowledges all wedding anniversaries and birthdays for current Regina residents.

To request a greeting, please submit the greeting request form at least two months prior to the celebration date.  While we are pleased to accept requests with less than the required notice, we cannot guarantee that the messages will be provided by the celebration date.
