Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Solomon Schofield presented Her Majesty with a unique brooch created by Saskatchewan designer Rachel Mielke today in London.

“Rachel Mielke is a gifted designer and a savvy businesswoman who has leveraged her impressive success to support charities that benefit women and girls around the world,” said the Lieutenant Governor.  “As a young leader in our province, I felt that Rachel was the perfect artist to create a gift for our Queen, who has dedicated her life to public service and is an inspiration to women and girls around the globe.”

The Lieutenant Governor also presented The Queen with a donation in her name to the Malala Fund, a charity that invests in girl-centric approaches to educating adolescent girls in the developing world.  Mielke’s company, Hillberg & Berk, has chosen to support the Malala Fund this year.

Each Canadian Vice-Regal representative has a personal audience with The Queen at Buckingham Palace.  Vaughn Solomon Schofield was installed as Saskatchewan’s 21st Lieutenant Governor in March of 2012.  She met with Her Majesty at Buckingham Palace today.

About the Brooch:  The 18K white gold brooch is a contemporary flower design, featuring Madagascar tourmaline, surrounded by 300 diamonds (1.527 carats), with a white fresh water cultured pearl at the centre.

About the Artist:  After winning CBC’s Dragons’ Den, Rachel Mielke partnered with business mogul and philanthropist W. Brett Wilson to establish the now highly successful Hillberg & Berk designer jewellery line.  Her designs are worn by celebrities such as Carrie Underwood, Sarah McLachlan, Michelle Obama, Barbara Walters, and Celine Dion.
