Saskatchewan Order of Merit

Established in 1985, the Saskatchewan Order of Merit is a prestigious recognition of excellence, achievement and contributions to the social, cultural and economic well-being of the province and its residents.

The Order recognizes individuals who have made their mark in such areas as the arts, agriculture, business and industry, community leadership, professions, public service, research, and volunteer service. The Order of Merit takes precedence over all other provincial honours and awards.

Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal

Saskatchewan has one of the highest rates of volunteerism in Canada. By helping others, volunteers makes life in our province better for everyone. Formal recognition of volunteers helps express the gratitude of the community, and also presents role models to the people of the province.

n 1995, on the occasion of Saskatchewan’s 90th anniversary, the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal was established to help recognize the province’s volunteers.

Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal

Established in 2003, the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal recognizes exemplary long service for individuals working in a direct capacity to protect people and/or property, and supervisory personnel in the public service sectors who ensure the safety, security, and protection of Saskatchewan citizens.  Lieutenant Governor Awards

Association of Consulting Engineering Companies - Saskatchewan

The Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan Meritorious Achievement Award was established in 2002 by the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies - Saskatchewan (ACEC-SK) as part of the ACEC-SK Awards of Excellence program.

The Award recognizes a Saskatchewan resident for his or her outstanding achievements and contributions to the consulting engineering and geoscience industry in the province, whether technical or managerial in nature, taking into consideration the individual’s contributions to business and society.

Heritage Saskatchewan Awards

Institute of Public Administration of Canada

Since 1987, the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC) in Saskatchewan has annually awarded a gold medal as a mark of distinction and exceptional achievement to a person who has shown distinctive leadership in public administration in Saskatchewan, or has made a significant contribution in the field of public administration in Saskatchewan.

Lieutenant Governor's Post-Secondary Teaching Award

Established in 2023, this award recognizes post-secondary educators who have displayed excellence in teaching and learning through a commitment to high-quality student learning experiences and a demonstrated record of innovation, leadership, and commitment to student learning and success. The Lieutenant Governor’s Post-Secondary Teaching Award will be given annually to educators from publicly funded post-secondary institutions across the province. Recipients of this award will be recognized under the following categories:

  • Distinguished Teaching Award

  • Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Teaching Award

  • Indigenous Teaching Excellence Award

  • Innovative Teaching Award

Northern Student Achievement

The Northern Student Achievement Awards were established in 1989 by the Ministry of Education, and includes The Lieutenant Governor’s Award of Excellence. The Award recognizes one outstanding student at each grade level from grades 7 to 12 in northern Saskatchewan schools.

Outstanding Service to Rural Saskatchewan

The Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Outstanding Service to Rural Saskatchewan was established in 1995 by the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM).

The award honours reeves, councilors, or administrators for contributions to rural Saskatchewan, and is presented by the Lieutenant Governor at the annual Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities Convention.

Nominations are submitted to the SARM office. A selection committee reviews the nominations to select one individual for his or her achievements in making rural Saskatchewan a better place to live.

Regina Men's Bonspiel

The Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan has been the official patron of the Regina Men’s Bonspiel since Saskatchewan became a province back in 1905 and has presented the Lieutenant Governor’s Medals following the final draw of the bonspiel to the winning curling team ever since!

Lieutenant Governor’s Graduate and Post-Graduate Scholarship

Established in 2022, this $20,000 scholarship is awarded annually recognizing academic excellence by graduate and post-graduate students at the University of Saskatchewan or University of Regina. To qualify, you must:

  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person

  • reside in Saskatchewan for the duration of your graduate or post-graduate studies

  • have an undergraduate degree in any discipline

  • have applied for admission or be enrolled in graduate or post-graduate studies for the upcoming academic year in any field of study at either the University of Saskatchewan or the University of Regina

  • have applied for a thesis or non-thesis (project-based) program. Course-based programs are not eligible.

King Charles III Coronation Medal

It is the first commemorative medal issued by Canada to mark a coronation. However, commemorative medals have been bestowed on Canadians through the British Crown since the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887!

Commemorative medals were also awarded to mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, and in each of her major anniversary years, including her Golden and Diamond Jubilees.

Most recently, the province of Saskatchewan initiated the Queen Elizabeth the Second Platinum Jubilee Medal program in 2022.

The Office of the Secretary to the Governor General is responsible for administering the King Charles III Coronation Medal program. The medal will be awarded to 30,000 deserving individuals in recognition of significant achievements and contributions.
