Lieutenant Governor Announces Woolly Donation Just in Time for the Holidays

Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty and The Campaign For Wool - Canada are proud to announce the donation of hand-knit Canadian wool toques to charities in Regina (The North Central Family Centre) and Saskatoon (EGADZ).

The hats were created as part of the inaugural Canadian Wool Month Knit-Along in October. The Knit-Along, which was co-sponsored by the Canadian Guild of Knitters, challenged wool enthusiasts across Canada to create toques made from 100% Canadian wool for those in need of warm clothes this winter.

“This is such a kind gesture from Canada’s knitters and I know both The North Central Family Centre and EGADZ are delighted with the donation,” said His Honour The Lieutenant Governor. “We are thankful to The Campaign for Wool – Canada, a patronage of HRH The Prince of Wales for involving us in this special project”.

As a show of thanks to the knitters, each hat donated awarded its creator a ticket in a prize raffle, featuring wonderful woolly prizes from Sykes and Ainley Woollens of Glen Williams, Ontario (sykes-ainley.ca) and Briggs and Little Woollen Mill of Harvey Station, New Brunswick (briggsandlittle.com).

“Canadian wool is the best fibre there is for keeping you warm and dry in a Saskatchewan winter,” said Matthew J. Rowe, CEO of The Campaign for Wool – Canada. “We are so pleased that this fun activity engaging knitters from across Canada will result in lasting comfort for families in need.”
