King Charles III Coronation Medal

The King Charles III Coronation Medal was created to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, which took place on May 6, 2023.

It is the first commemorative medal issued by Canada to mark a coronation. However, commemorative medals have been bestowed on Canadians through the British Crown since the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887! Commemorative medals were also awarded for Queen Elizabeth the Second’s coronation, and in each of her major anniversary years, including her Golden and Diamond Jubilees. Most recently, the province of Saskatchewan initiated the Queen Elizabeth the Second Platinum Jubilee Medal program in 2022.

The Office of the Secretary to the Governor General is responsible for administering the King Charles III Coronation Medal program. The medal will be awarded to 30,000 deserving individuals in recognition of significant achievements and contributions.

Nominations can only be made through partnering organizations determined by the Governor General’s Office. For more information, please visit the Governor General’s website.
