Red Dress Day

Her Honour Donna Mirasty wore red today to remember Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Girls and to support those who have lost loved ones.

Red Dress Day in Canada takes place on Wednesday, May 5 and was established to draw attention to the more than 1,000 missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls in Canada. The REDress Project was created in 2010, by Métis artist Jaime Black, in an effort to commemorate the lives of each of the missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls in Canada by implementing a visual reminder of the number of those who are no longer with us. Since its creation, the project has sparked a national movement, which has since resulted in the establishment of Red Dress Day in Canada, to bring awareness to this important issue and to invoke support and community healing.
