Lt. Governor Mirasty speaks at Saskatchewan Residential School Memorial ceremony
Their Honours Russ and Donna Mirasty participated in an event on Monday, July 22nd held at Government House to dedicate new informational panels and metal carvings of children that all help to add context to the Saskatchewan Residential School Memorial.
Chad Debert, Government House Manager, was the M.C. of the program which included remarks from Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty about the creation of the Residential School Memorial.
Elder May Desnomie gave a blessing and smudged the metal representations of children.
The recently installed silhouettes were made by Pro Metal Industries, an Indigenous-owned company from Pasqua First Nation.
Guests were welcome to spend time around the Memorial and ask questions.
They were also invited to move inside Government House to view two travelling exhibits: "Where are the Children? Healing the Legacy of Residential Schools" presented by the Legacy of Hope Foundation and Library and Archives Canada, and "A National Crime: The Residential School System in Canada," presented by the Legacy of Hope Foundation and the Department of Heritage Canada.
