A Warm Welcome in Weyburn

Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty and Her Honour Donna Mirasty had a wonderful time visiting with the people of Weyburn on Tuesday, February 27th, 2024. They began the day with a visit to a school, had lunch at the local Legion branch, and then visited with seniors in the afternoon.

The day’s events started at 10 in the morning at Saint Michael School where Their Honours received a warm welcome. Grade 9 student’s Haroun and Harlo joined Principal Sabrina Gulka in greeting the Vice-Regal Couple.

In the gymnasium the student band played God Save the King, O Canada and the Vice-Regal Salute! The Lieutenant Governor spoke to a general assembly about his role. Thanks to Bruno Tuchscherer, Board Chair of the Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division, for the lovely gift that included a RCSSD cookbook.

Their Honours also toured a grade four class and the students had some good questions for His Honour! The visit to the school ended with Their Honours dropping in on an Indigenous studies class and they were able to help the students - who were learning Cree vocabulary - with their pronunciation.

At 11:30 a.m. Their Honours visited at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 47. The Lieutenant Governor offered brief remarks to around fifty Legion members and guests. His Honour then presented the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers to local member Harold Whiteoak. The medal represents recognition for outstanding, dedicated volunteer service.

The presentation was followed by a buffet lunch and then Their Honours had an opportunity to chat with those in attendance and admire the displays throughout the Legion Hall.

The third and final stop of the day was at the Parkway Lodge for tea/coffee time. His Honour spoke briefly to those on hand about his role of Lieutenant Governor.

Their Honours also had time to meet and chat with the residents and guests.

As is obvious from the photos, Their Honours had a good time meeting with the seniors!
