Unveiling of the Diamond Jubilee Portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty and Canadian artist Phil Richards unveiled the Diamond Jubilee Portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at Government House, Regina, on Thursday, May 19, 2022.

Phil Richards discusses with guests his experience of painting the Diamond Jubilee Portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II during Platinum Jubilee celebrations at Saskatchewan Government House.

The ten-foot high portrait was painted by Canadian portraitist Phil Richards on the occasion of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee (60th anniversary) and was officially unveiled in London, England on June 6, 2012 and installed in Rideau Hall, Ottawa on June 28, 2012. In September 2018, extensive renovations began in the Ballroom at Rideau Hall and the portrait embarked on a cross-country tour to allow more Canadians the ability to see it in person.  Fortunately for Saskatchewan residents the portrait will be on display at Government House in Regina until March 2023. A complimentary exhibit “Portrait in the Making” with sketches and early drawings in preparation of painting the final portrait is also open to the public in the QEII Gallery in Government House.
