Poppy Presentation

Their Honours the Honourable Russ Mirasty, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan and Donna Mirasty received the first poppies of the 2021 Poppy Campaign in Saskatchewan at Government House in Regina on Thursday, October 28, 2021. The Poppy was presented by The Royal Canadian Legion – Saskatchewan Command President Keith Andrews.

Their Honours in turn presented poppies to Margaret Schaffer and Tom Jenkins, the niece and nephew of Lance Corporal Morgan Jones Jenkins, who was killed in the 1918 Battle of Arras and whose remains were only recently identified.

Poppies will be available to the general public beginning on Friday, October 29, 2021 at Legions, participating merchants and public venues across the province.

This year marks 100 years since the poppy was officially adopted in Canada by the Great War Veterans’ Association (one of the predecessors of today’s Royal Canadian Legion) as the national symbol of remembrance for the Canadian men and women who gave their lives during military service around the world. Funds raised through the Poppy Campaign support programs for veterans and their families.
